Bus Update
Whilst there has not been much physical progress with the bus, there has been quite a lot going on in the background…..
We initially met with our pupils and Anna Godzinska, an interior designer from Concertus who gave her time for free, to talk about and incorporate their ideas for our bus project. They came up with some fantastic ideas such as; an art and craft area, soft seating, starry sky, quiet area for reading, plants, speakers, big pil-lows and puppets to name a few. Anna took all of this on board and produced some lovely designs for us.
However, before we can get to this stage there are lots of not so fun things to think about; humidity, insulation, lighting and heating, windows, security and of course all the health and safety aspects including during the construction phase.
We needed an architect to oversee all of this but did not want to spend all of the money raised by the PTA, the Rotary Club and NADFAS on architects fees before we had even started any work!
It took a few months but we are delighted that Alan Wilkinson from KLH Architects has come on board as a community based project. We have met a few times and he has been working very hard over the last six months to try and get other trades on board and exploring free or low cost assistance.
One of the flooring companies he uses have agreed to supply floor coverings in marmoleum and/or flotex free of charge. He is still waiting for a reply from a furniture firm to see whether they could do something regarding upholstery and his colleague Joe has contacted companies to replace the broken glass and is obtaining quotes for this.
He has also been trying to get one of the larger companies to come on board which will allow us to ensure we comply with health and safety legislation. Unfortunately Cadman Construction Ltd who were initially interested could not help with the labour owing to the pressure of their workload but they have kindly offered a donation of £500.00.
Just last week we heard that Phelan Construction are interested and we are meeting at the beginning of January! We will be discussing access arrangements, health and safety, priorities and timescale, pupil involvement and if any voluntary labour from parents/families will be available?
If you think you may be able to voluntarily help in any way – please email admin@potkliln.suffolk.sch.uk and let us know what type of help you could offer from sweeping and cleaning to electrical or other trades
WE NEED YOU!
Many thanks in advance
