LSA – Mrs Green
Mrs Norris provides 1-1 support throughout the week.
The children have settled back extremely well! Year 1 are now having a more formal approach to their learning as they all have their own table spaces, whilst Reception still have access to the continuous provision alongside focused group activities!
Our Topic this term is ‘Toy Story’. We will be learning about toys from the past and present and how the materials they are made of have changed over time.
This half term we had a visit from the Freshwater Theatre Company which enabled the children to learn about our topic through drama! We found out how the ‘Teddy bear’ was named after President Theodore ‘Teddy’ Roosevelt, after he refused to shoot a bear on a hunt. After this made news in America, a Toy Maker called Morris Michtom created a bear called ‘Teddy’. These were a huge success and were reproduced all over the world as the ‘Teddy bear’.
We have also been exploring materials and children enjoyed using the story, ‘The 3 little pigs’ to create a strong house that could not be blown over by the wolf! Whilst using a range of materials they had to predict which would be the strongest, design a way of testing fairly and conclude whether their prediction was correct.
