Class teacher: Miss King

Class LSA: Mrs Hay

Mrs Bowler covers Miss King on a Monday afternoon.

Welcome to Chestnut class! This year we aim to provide all the children with fun and exciting learning opportunities in which they will gain the foundational skills to start off their schooling career.

We believe in working closely with parents to help our children reach their full potential. I am available at the start and end of school each day if you would like to discuss your child’s learning or you can book an appointment though the office at a convenient time for us both. On a Thursday afternoon 2-2:45pm we go to the library bus parents are welcome to join us each week.

In the Autumn term, we focused on building our communication skills, collaboration and sharing skills and built positive relationships with our peers. We learnt all about different celebrations and even put on our own talent show alongside Cherry and Ash class.

Spring topic: Superheroes.

This term we will be focusing on the book Supertato by Sue Hendra starting off with a crime scene that we need to solve! We will also learn about our super bodies and what keeps us healthy and strong, design our own superhero and have visits from real life superheroes!

Home learning: Each week we will give suggestions in your child’s contact book for ways in which you can support your child’s learning at home. In class children are always working on their early maths and literacy skills. Through games and activities, the children are focussing on recognising numbers, careful counting, beginning to add, differentiating between different sounds and recognising Phase 2 and 3 letters and beginning to read words. The children bring home a phonics folder with 2 sets of letters the children are learning. Playing phonics games and hearing your child read just a few pages each evening will make a huge difference to their confidence in reading.
