In English we will begin by exploring ‘Why Bats Sleep in the Day’ to develop their talk for writing skills. Children will also learn about writing instructions on ‘How to look after a dragon.’ Finally, this half term we will study the poem ‘The Day the Dragons won the Lottery’ to explore how to use humour in writing.
The children will need their reading books in school with them every day so please help them remember them every morning. It is also very important that they read to someone at home regularly. Please read at least 3 times a week and record any reading in their homework folder. This will be checked every Monday by Mrs Stern and the children who read 3 times every week will be invited to a special party during the last week of the half term. It would be nice to see lots of children from Oak class attending this party!
During the first term we will be focusing on securing the children’s place value knowledge, methods for addition and subtraction, learning times tables (up to and including the 12 times table). Real life contexts for maths will focus on problems and calculations that involve using money.
Our topic for this half term is ‘Myths and Legends’. Children will learn about how we use these tales to teach us valuable lessons about life. We will make further links with both history and art through these stories
In Science we will be investigating healthy lives and linking this to food hygiene and diets. Suffolk OneLife will be running weekly sessions in our class around the theme of wellbeing.
The Bures Dragon.
We will be visiting the dragon to inspire our writing and link the history to our topic of Myths and Legends.
Using our place value skills in maths.
